Forecast Update Wed 9-15

A Little Progress:
Even though our high pressure ridge will keep North Texas warmer than normal for the next ten days, overnight lows are finally beginning to dip. Humidity levels will also be falling slowly through the weekend.
Wed 93/76, Thu 93/75, Fri 94, Sat 94, Sun 93.
Isolated afternoon/evening storms unlikely but still possible through Sun. 

With the weather fairly quiet here, we’ll be sharing weather safety tips over the next two weeks to prepare you for the upcoming fall severe weather season which usually begins in late September or early October.

Forecast Update Tue 9-14

Heat and humidity continue.
A broad ridge of high pressure will keep Gulf moisture trapped at the surface.
Tue 93 (98), Wed 94, Thu 95.
Fri and Sat, expect a few isolated storms.
Cooling and power demand will remain high.

Stressful Heat and Humidity.
Monday..Partly Cloudy and 92 (Heat stress index 98). Low near 78.

Isolated storms possible each afternoon but not likely.

Weekend Forecast Update Fri 9-10-10

Heat and humidity are back. After the heavy rains, we’ll have considerable cloud each morning, burning off to partly cloudy each afternoon, with highs in the mid 90′s today, tomorrow and Sunday.
Heat stress and power demands increasing again.

Fewer than 1500 power outages in the DFW metro area at 6A today.
Still slight chance of storms Thursday, mainly East of DFW.
High near 91
Next chance of storms not until Saturday afternoon, and mainly West.

Outage Weather Update 9:30P Wed

Last special blog for the night. DFW metro power outages running about 7k now. Restoration crews still making progress.
Storms in Parker, Wise and Denton Counties have gusty winds, brief heavy rains and frequent lightning but are still below severe criteria. Tornado watch still in effect especially east of I-35 through at least midnight.

Weather/Outage Update 9:15P Wed

Strong storms underway from the Red River around Gainesville down through Sanger to the Denton/Wise County line. Lots of lightning and brief gusty winds with the line of storms that extends through Texas Motor Speedway down to Weatherford.
Power restoration crews making big progress in the past hour…cutting outages from 10k to 7k.

11k outages in Tarrant and Dallas County..restoration still in progress. Separate lines of storms from Lake Whitney south into the Hill Country and from the Oklahoma border down through Wise County. Line of storms could spread into Denton County within the next hour.

Aprox 11k outages in Tarrant and Dallas Counties as of 8P.
Restoration slowed by downed trees in Oak Cliff and West Dallas but proceeding.

Severe Weather Update 7:50P Wed

Tornadic supercell in Cooke County moving north. Spotters report violently rotating wall cloud with previous debris.

Weather Update 7:47P Wed

New storm in Northern Johnson County moving into Tarrant County near Burleson and Crowley. Not severe, but watching broad rotation. Possible gusty winds in South Tarrant County West of I-35 South Freeway near the Johnson Tarrant County line.

Tornado Warning Cooke County until 8P…passing near Gainesville with debris reported by spotters.
Power outages are being restored but downed trees in Oak Cliff are slowing the process. Currently about 13k outages in the DFW metro area. Many in Oak Cliff/West Dallas and in the other tornadic supercell path through Southeast Dallas County between Ferris and Seagoville..on into Forney and Rockwall.

TORNADO WARNING UNTIL 6:45 NORTH DALLAS COUNTY..STORM NEAR LBJ 635 BETWEEN THE TOLLWAY AND CENTRAL EXPRESSWAY…MOVING NORTH AT 30 MPH. NUMEROUS POWER OUTAGES BEHIND THE STORM BACK SOUTH INTO OAK CLIFF.

Power Outage Update 2:20P Wed 9-8

As of 2:20 PM, roughly 25k outages in the DFW metro area. 10′s of thousands restored since last night, but additional outages in Collin, East Dallas, East Ellis, Kaufman and Rockwall Counties. Those storms had stronger winds than the flooding storms earlier that dropped 6 inches of rain in Denton, Tarrant and Johnson Counties.

Severe Weather Update 2P Wed 9-8-10

Conditions improving from West to East.
Widely scattered storms still developing over Parker, Wise and Tarrant Counties, but nothing like the torrential downpours earlier.
6-10″ of rain in Tarrant County.
10-15K power outages in DFW metro area. Downed trees and flooded intersections slowing Oncor crews but things are getting better.
Flood warnings continue in parts of Collin, Rockwall and Kaufman Counties. Lower-urgency flood advisories elsewhere in North Texas.

Power outages..about 15K. Many of the early outages have been resolved, but additional tstm winds, downed trees and accidents have slowed the power restoration efforts throughout the area.

Serious over-bank flooding underway through tonight.

Strong storms with 50-60 mph winds and rainfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour.
