Severe Weather Risk Saturday April 30

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of North Texas in the ‘Slight Risk’ area for severe weather this afternoon and tonight.
The area includes everything east of Abilene and everything north of I-20.
It is a conditional threat highly dependent on several factors interacting with each other in a certain way. If they don’t come together as predicted, DFW is less likely to receiver severe storms, but more likely to receive non-severe storms early Sunday lingering into Monday.

Gusty south winds will lead to an increase in humidity and a new chance of storms Sunday. As a cold front comes through North Texas Sunday morning and returns from South Texas as a warm front Tuesday, rain and thunderstorms may linger early next week.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE 4-26 3:10 PM

SEVERE TSTM WARNING for Johnson and Ellis Counties. Two severe storms developed near Lake Whitney in Hill County. Both are moving northeast toward Ellis and southern Dallas Counties.
A Tornado Wath..(particularly dangerous situation) is in effect across North Texas until 10P.
Warning for Dallas County could be coming soon.
Prepare for power outages in addition to large hail, damaging winds and isolated flooding.

Severe Weather Threat increasing this afternoon, Tuesday 4-26

The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the elevated “moderate risk area” to Gainesville, Denton, DFW Airport and all points east and northeast.
An even rarer “high risk” area is bounded by Bonham, Greenville, Canton and Tyler.
The SPC describes it as a “particularly dangerous situation.” Please plan accordingly this afternoon and evening.

Severe Tstm warnings for portions of Erath, Hood, Parker and Tarrant Counties until 9:15.
Storms with tornadic wind potential 70+ mph wind gusts and 2″ hail covering much of Parker and Hood counties between Weatherfod and Granbury..moving East.
Prepare for additional power outages from the storm itself or from outflow wind gusts spreading out 50-60 miles from the center of the downdraft of the storm.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northern Tarrant County, most of Denton, eastern Wise county and northeastern Parker Counties. Storm complex is massive..40 miles North to South..25 miles East to West.
Has history of golfball sized hail at 70-80 mph winds. Very Dangerous Storm. Prepare for numerous power outages in the storm track of Northern Tarrant County and most of Denton County. Disconnect sensitve electronics when possible..and turn off A/C after a power outage to help prevent damage and power surges when the power is turned back on.

Sunday April 24 SPECIAL WEATHER UPDATE

Storm Prediction Center Risk-Area for Severe Thundertorms late Sunday and Sunday night.

Last night’s widely-scattered severe storms generated several reports of golf-ball to baseball-sized hail, wind gusts near 70 mph and additional downburst winds that knocked down limbs, trees and powerlines to thousands of homes and businesses in the DFW metro areas.  
Prepare for similar conditions in the same area between 6PM and Midnight. 
Also, if you will be gone for much of the day, you may wish to unplug sensitive electronic devices to protect against lightning strikes and/or power surges when power is restored.  Likewise, if your power does out during a storm, please find and turn off your thermostat to help prevent neighborhood power surges on your street as the power is brought back up.

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORY 4-24 12:15AM

Another group of thundertorms southwest of DFW is in the process of dying out. If they collapse as quickly as the previous group did, they will extend our period of gusty winds for another hour or two.
Be prepared for power outages.
Turn off high-energy usage appliances and sensitive electronics if your power is out. They are less likely to be damaged or cause a power surge when power is finally restored.

SPECIAL WEATHER UPDATE TSTM WINDS 12A 4-24

Severe thunderstorm winds in excess of 55 mph are still reported across much of the DFW metro area.
Power outages are commonly following the storm track from southwest to northeast.
Oncor crews are getting back into the field as winds dubside and conditions improve to an acceptable margin of safety.
Reminder..if your power is still out, please turn off sensitive electronics and high-usage appliances including your central AC to avoid damaging power surges when power is restored. The worst of the winds is over, but it will remain gusty for a couple more hours until storms southwest of DFW finally dissipate or move on.

SPECIAL WEATHER UPDATE

Severe winds in excess of 60 mph are raking across much of the DFW area..causing many rapid power outages.
Understand that Oncor restoration teams will have to wait for the winds to drop below the margin of safety before getting back into the field. Secure everything you can and prepare for power outages by disconnecting sensitive electronic devices.
Also if you lose power, try to find your thermostat and turn off your AC to avoid a mass power surge when power is restored to your area.

Severe Weather Update 11:30 PM April 14

Strong to severe storms moving through Dallas, Collin, Rockwall and Kaufman Counties. Storms typically are dropping hail of 1″ or smaller and winds of 60-80 mph. Scattered storm damage and power outages can be expected across parts of DFW Metro area and Northeast Texas through the early morning hours. Storms have cleared out of Denton and Tarrant Counties.
Exercise caution around storm-damaged areas or those where the lights are out.
