Friday September 30 Weekend Forecast Update

The first weekend of the State Fair of Texas should be absolutely delightful with highs in the 80s, lows in the 50′s to near 60 and lots of sunshine.
Today, however, there is a high risk of grassfires.
The DFW area received generally less than 1/2″ of rain in the line of severe storms that blew through last night.  After yesterday’s record high of 101, the ground is still quite warm, vegetation is drying out quickly and today’s cold front will bring humidity levels down to 20% with gusty north winds today.  Expect a Red Flag Warning for high to extreme fire danger in the area today.

Severe Weather Update 10:30 P.M.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Dallas and Tarrant Counties were cancelled early.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS CONTINUE IN EFFECT FOR JOHNSON AND ELLIS COUNTIES UNTIL 10:45 P.M.
Greatest dangers are intense lightning and gusty winds in excess of 60 mph.  Brief heavy rains and small hail can also be expected with the storms as they move into Cleburne and Waxahachie..spreading south at 20-30 mph.
Lightning continues to trail the storms that ended earlier in Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
Oncor crews are staged and ready to begin restoring power as soon as conditions permit safe operations on the power lines.
Please be patient as the crews follow the storms from north to south.  If possible, turn off sensitive electronics including TVs and computers.  Also turn off AC if possible to prevent power surges as power is restored and prevent damage to those appliances if there are surges in your area when the power is restored.

Special Weather Update 8:25 P.M. Thursday Sep 29

Scattered strong storms are moving south through Denton and Collin Counties with heavy lightning activity.  Plan for frequent power outages now.  Have a flashlight handy, disconnect sensitive electronics and prepare for brief heavy rains, gusty winds and small hail in addition to the lightning.
