The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of Central, North and Northeast Texas under a Severe Thunderstorm watch until 11:00 p.m. The presence of a stalled frontal bondary, warmth, humidity and upper-level instability have triggered numerous showers and thunderstorms since 3:30. There is also enough wind-shear through low altitudes to mention a potential tornado threat, but by far, the most likely causes of severe weather in North Texas this Sunday evening will be the threat of moderate to large hail and brief gusty winds. Additionally, any storm could produce lightning strikes which, along with gusty winds, could cause widespread power outages.
The frontal boundary will remain stalled near DFW for another 24-36 hours under a stronger cell of high pressure can force it southward. That means we will be under an occasional threat of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night through Monday and possibly as late as Tuesday afternoon.
